Also known as the Monarch. Rules the country. Wears the Anglian crown. The crown has five spikes trimmed with gold, and a sapphire star in the middle of the central spike. It weighs nearly six pounds and is tiring to wear. A Monarch who is also Autarch wears the Imperial Crown during Imperial functions and the Royal Crown during state functions. |
His/Her Excellency, Viceroy/ Vicereine Marcus/Gertrude of Anglia. |
More powerful than the Autarch’s Consort. Runs the judiciary. All High Sheriffs report to him/her. Acts as the Monarch when the Monarch is absent. If the Monarch is an Emperor/Empress, then he/she runs the Empire in their stead (only allowed for a six-month period). He/she is Regent to the royal children should their parents die. The Viceroy/Vicereine is an appointed position, not inherited, and is only in office while the Monarch rules. He/she is always a Noble, a legal scholar, and always from an unmarked house. |

The Monarch’s chief administrator. In the old days they were called stewards. Runs the palace and royal estates as well as the Imperial holdings. Controls access to the Monarch. The Chamberlain is an appointed position (by the Monarch), not inherited, and is only in power while the Monarch rules. Not necessarily chosen from a noble house, and never from a marked house. Sometimes they are drawn from foreign counselors. |
Royal Chancellor |

The Monarch’s secretary. Runs the chancery that produces all official documents and is in charge of foreign affairs and spycraft. Always a noble and an academic, but never from a marked house. |

The latter-born sons/daughters of a King/Queen. They have a wide range of possible responsibilities. |
Royal Treasurer |
His/Her Grace, Stanley Kemp/Margo Billins, Treasurer of Anglia. |
The chief financial officer of the country and senior officer of the Exchequer (royal treasury). In close contact with the country’s merchant class and minters. Always a noble and an academic, but never from a marked house. |
His/Her Grace, Stanley Kemp/Margo Longtower, Holy Elector of Anglia. |
In Anglia, the Holy Elector gets two votes in an election for Autarch. Appointed for life by the Monarch. Not an inherited position. Always a Lower Noble with a cathedral school education. This person spends significant time abroad meeting with other dignitaries and electors and sometimes works in conjunction with the Chancellor. The Elector’s job is to take the temperature of the Empire and serve as Anglia’s chief diplomat. |

The Monarch’s personal advisor. Works closely with the Chamberlain. An appointed position that cannot be passed to heirs. This person is chosen for their wisdom and is often a foreigner from outside the Empire. |

An appointed position. Always a former military officer with diplomatic skills. They represent the Autarch in a particular province and are considered Lower Nobles if they had no title before their appointment. There are no Imperial Knights stationed at the Crown Province, but they serve in every province of every country in the Empire. Imperial knights report to the Autarch’s Master/Mistress of Arms. Their job is to monitor the military readiness of the Empire’s various provinces. Note: this is not a traditional knighthood and not necessarily based on battlefield bravery. |

Baronet/Baronetess |

The lowest of the Low Nobility. Rules a tithing (a subregion of a county). There can only be one per tithing. Not an inherited position, and the title cannot be passed to heirs. This is a title that is purchased from the Crown to obtain access to the Royal Court, a practice that Nobles distain. |
